History in Term 2

In Term 2 we all read a book called “Unbroken”. “Unbroken” is about a man named Louie Zamperini who was a professional runner and then went into the air force during WW2. While he was at the Air Force he was involved in a terrible crash and was lost at sea with two of his friends named Phil and Mac. Mac died but Louie and Phil made it. Louie and Phil ended up finding a ship and were pulled up by the Japanese. The Japanese soldiers seemed to be their friends, but they had no idea what was coming. The two men were brought to a place where they would stick you into basically a small box and you would be living in there until they would bring you to a camp. They were tortured in the camp and starved. This book is a very inspiring book about a man who has gone through horrible things but made it out alive by holding onto the things and people he loved.

We went on a field trip to the Eastern Mennonite Missions and we got to learn about different missions that the workers went on. During the time we were there we got to eat a meal from India and get different kinds of drinks from different countries. We played a game where one of the workers would talk about a mission and then he would tell us what country we needed to find on the map, and whoever found it first won a kit kat bar. We also got to get free t-shirts that have the word love in the most common spoken languages.

In our art class on Tuesdays with Ms. Joyce we did a lot of fun different art things, but I think the one I enjoyed the most was a watercolor project that we did. This watercolor project was a project where you would make a blue background and make trees on top of the background. We did two kinds of trees. On one paper we drew long big trees without leaves on them, and on the other we painted smaller pine trees. Both of these watercolor pages looked beautiful.
