Call of the Wild - Reaction Paper
Call of The Wild: The movie is not really accurate.
Do not watch the movie before reading the book because you will understand the movie more if you read the book first. Call of The Wild is a book about a dog named Buck. This book is very adventurous and exciting. There are kidnappings, fights, competitions, Indians, gold rush, and some terrible moments as well. The book is not graphic making it a perfect reader for little kids.
Buck is a big dog who lived on a rich estate. His owner was a lawyer. The lawyer had a hired hand who would feed his horses, cut the grass, and make sure his estate looked very neat and tidy. The hired hand was short on money so he caught Buck and sold him to a guy who bought and trained dogs then sold them to the mail sleds. While Buck was with the dog seller, he was beaten until he stopped fighting and obeyed.
After Buck was done getting trained, he was bought by two guys who ran a mail sled. Buck had a lot of things to learn and had trouble learning. But after a while he got the hang of it and became one of the best sled dogs. But the best sled dog was a mean one. His name was Spitz. Spitz would steal the other dogs' food and would kill some of them as well. One night Buck was chasing a rabbit but Spitz caught it just before Buck could. Buck had enough. He lunged in and started fighting. Spitz had lots of experience, but Buck was smarter. Eventually, Buck killed Spitz.
After the fight Buck became the sled leader. The mail sled got to the town in record time. But there the two mail sled owners had to sell their dogs because they needed the money. An old man bought Buck and took him to his old cabin beside a stream where he was searching for gold. Buck began to love his new owner a lot. One day when Buck was out roaming the woods, he found a clan of wolves. After a while he kept going out into the woods to be with this clan. One day when he came back he found his owner dead. The Indians had killed him. Buck was mad. Buck tracked down the Indians who killed his owner and with his clan beside him he killed those Indians. Legend has it that Buck still roams the woods. Sleek, brown, big, and majestic.
Don't watch the movie because it skips over so many details. Also it adds something to the movie that is not in the book. The movie had a big black wolf-like spirit that Buck could see. There is nothing like that in the book. My argument still remains. Read the book before the movie.
