Field Trips and Events

In Term 1 at the Paloma School we went on four field trips. We went to UNTO to help sort through shoes and clothing to send to people in need in Venezuela. We got to hear about an amazing story of a woman's life and how she has gotten to where she is now. ACT was a place that we got to learn about engineering and different things that the employees were in the process of building. The third field trip we went on was to the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. Here we got to see different kinds of trains and listen to a story on how the first trains with beds  were invented. Our very last field trip, we went to the Harrisburg Symphony and we got to listen to a story of a mayor that wanted to be with a married woman and throughout the composer telling the story, the players would play music to go with the story.

For art in Term 1, we learned how to woodburn and each person started by getting a wood tile and drawing their design with pencil. Each person would then get a woodburning tool that looked like a pen that was heated at the end and we would go over the design with the tool. We also learned about a man named John Singer Sargent. John Singer Sargent was an American artist who was raised in Italy. He was born on January 12, 1856.

In Term 1 we had three different events that the Paloma School helped out with or hosted. Our first event that we helped with was Seyfert's Corn Maze. Paloma students made baked goods and soup for people to buy for raising money toward the Paloma School. Another fun thing that we did was have a Thanksgiving feast with the school. Different parents made Thanksgiving food and at lunch everyone had a Thanksgiving lunch with each other. Our last event was the 5k Marathon. The 5k was also for raising money for the school. Once you got to the end of the marathon there was water and food you were rewarded with.
